  1. This is the problem with watching too early and being too cheap to pay for appletv because now i have to wait for the full subtitles 😭

EDIT: I gave in and got an appletv subscription because I’m weak…I’ll cry about my credit card bill next month…

I’m scared for Sunja. I know her husband was imprisoned for a long time and the boys had to grow up without a father figure for years, but don’t let this man’s BS sway you. He still has a wife and children and scary in-laws.
And Kyunghee, don’t do it! Season 1, we were just supposed to “pick mushrooms” and then we got Noa. Please don’t make the mistake of “just doing laundry” with Mr. Kim…Even though her husband’s in Nagasaki and we all know how that’s about to turn out…

  2. There are many things that seperate Pachinko from other kdramas and cinematography is certainly one of them. We saw back in season 1 episode 7, the use of the frame scale and black and white, here again in episode 3, the black and white has returned. Life is void of color. It is a stark contrast to the bright lights, vibrant colors and music from the opening dance sequence in the Pachinko parlor.

It also makes me reflective when watching these humanistic dramas during war. How lucky and fortunate I am to have had so much in my life and not had to experience these types of hardships and fears. Yes, I am old enough to remember gas rationing in the US (for those not familiar, you could only get gas on odd or even days based on your license plate and the lines for gas were ridiculously long). I’ve also lived and survived in conditions that were not always ideal. And of course Covid gave many a rude awaking as to how easily life can change.

We continually need to be reminded that we should be thankful every day for what we do have instead of always wanting more. Instead of complaining about why we can’t have instantaneous delivery or fruits and vegetables out of season, we need to be thankful that we have become this spoiled.
